As lockdown lifted over the summer, and our more vulnerable patients no longer have to shield, we have seen unprecedented demand on practice services both in terms of pressure on the ‘phone system and for appointments. Understandably, this has further increased with children returning to school and the usual seasonal viral illnesses emerging.
In line with Public Health guidance, where possible we continue to manage patients remotely either by telephone or video consultation in order to manage social distancing in the practice waiting room and limit unnecessary footfall. We seek to reassure patients that, where it is necessary to consult face to face, we are still arranging this following dialogue between the patient and the clinician.
We have amended our telephone system to help direct patients to the most appropriate department for the nature of their enquiry and would encourage patients to listen to the new instructions in order to minimise call waiting times when patients phone the surgery. All available admin staff are helping with call answering so please continue to bear with us whilst we clear this backlog in demand whilst navigating additional infection control restrictions.
