In common with many of the other practices in Bedfordshire, our reception staff are undergoing special training in order to help patients make contact with the right person to meet their individual needs. In order for this to be effective, the GPs have asked our reception team to ask our patients a little bit more information about the nature of their problem in order to determine who is the best person to help them. This could include a member of our practice team (GP, matron, clinical pharmacist, practice nurse, HCA) or one of our community colleagues e.g. in pharmacy, opticians, physiotherapy etc. The system will be going live on 1st June and we'd be most grateful for your support. Clara, our Clinical Pharmacist, has been approached by the Thames Valley Leadership Academy to take part in a programme to improve global health in developing countries. The programme aims to develop leadership and quality improvement skills in its participants whilst improving health services in a resource-poor setting. This exciting opportunity will help support Clara's continued development as a health care professional and she will be working in Myanmar from 1st June this year for 4 months. Whilst she is away, the GPs will manage her asthma/COPD patients' day to day care and Clara will be back to support us all again in October.
Dr Henderson will be taking some leave for planned hip surgery from mid-May for a couple of months. His sessions will be covered by Dr Sayeed Ahmed, a Locum GP, and we wish John all the best for a speedy recovery.
We are delighted to let our patients know that Dr Mathieson had a baby girl on Wed 9th May; both mum and baby are doing well. Dr Mathieson will now be taking a period of maternity leave, and plans to return to the practice in mid-November 2018 working 3.5 days per week.
It is with great sadness that we confirm that Dr Stewart, having been with the practice for 15 years, will be leaving us at the end of March to pursue a career in medical education. She will be very much missed by the team here at Bassett Road as well as her patients and we wish her and her family every success for the future.

Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)
The practice went live with the EPS service in the summer of 2016 which enables GPs and Nurse Prescribers to send prescriptions electronically to a dispenser (such as a pharmacy) of the patient's choice. This makes the prescribing and dispensing process more efficient and convenient for patients and staff. If you would like to know more, please speak to one of our dispensary staff or your usual GP or click on this link: EPS Patient Factsheet
